High School Pastor

 ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

I.      Staff Minister:

A.   Embrace the FVCN philosophy, vision and mission as defined by leadership.

B.    Participate in a connect group associated with FVCN and its mission.

C.    Pastor your ministry area through visitation, calls, and follow-up.

D.   Provide pastoral care and exhibit genuine Biblical accountability to those in your ministry purview.

E.    Recruit, train and deploy lay persons into your ministry areas.

F.    Participate in scheduled staff meetings.

G.   Assist the Pastoral staff with any miscellaneous roles as assigned by the Executive Pastor.

H.   Achieve professional growth through continuing education, appropriate conferences, retreats and research.

 

II.      Director of High School Ministry (9th-12th Grade)

A.   Plan High School - Weekly Worship Service

1.Create and communicate OOS (Order of Service) Containing music, teaching, games, social space, small group time, etc.

2.Research and develop curriculum that is relevant to the age group.

3.Develop small group discussion questions/activities.

4.Develop relevant corporate worship in conjunction with Worship Arts Director (music/singing, dancing, etc.)

5.Research group games, upfront games, team building exercises, etc.)

6.Benchmark churches that are comparable in size and churches that are larger to research common practices that will promote growth within your ministry.

B.    Establish Student Section in our main contemporary services.

C.    Recruit and Lead Volunteers

1.Cast a vision to high caliber volunteers that entice them to serve Jesus in student ministries

2.Ensure all volunteers have current background checks on file.

3.Maintain a minimum of 2 volunteer group leaders per small group.

4.Recruit volunteers to run different parts of the service (i.e. game leader, worship leader, etc.)

5.Meet with volunteers weekly before each service to discuss the service and upcoming events.

6.Give small group leaders the scripture and discussion questions mid-week so they have time to prepare to lead their small group.

7.Keep volunteers informed of upcoming events through weekly emails.

8.Give volunteers often a platform to voice concerns and suggestions.

D.   Plan and Execute events

1.Strategically plan event that are outreach oriented.

2.Keep events planned out 18 months in advance.

3.Coordinate with the family ministries admin to get events on the church calendar.

4.Coordinate with the communications director to promote and advertise events.

5.Create budgets to manage cost.

6.Recruit adult volunteers for each event.

7.Ensure all participants have signed a medical release form BEFORE any event.

E.    Plan and execute annual Fall Retreat in cooperation with Middle School Pastor

1.Recruit a speaker

2.Recruit a worship band

3.Establish theme and spiritual direction

4.Schedule a retreat center or camp

5.Recruit adult volunteers

6.Plan retreat activities

7.Coordinate transportation to and from retreat center or camp

F.    Plan and execute annual Mission Trip

1.Prayerfully consider and select the project and location and submit for approval

2.Create and maintain budget

3.Plan activities for a “fun day”

4.Plan and budget for these necessary elements

-   Lodging

-   Worship

-   Meals

-   Transportation

-   Project Funds

5.Begin advertising and registration in October

G.   Implement and maintain a process of assimilation and care.

1.Ensure connection with new students and their families

2.Ensure that students that have been absent do not go unnoticed.

3.Bring students and leaders into the assimilation care process through the New Here Family ministry.

4.Visit volunteers and students in emergency situations or hospital

5.Contact people in this age group that have been absent for 3,6, or 9 weeks.

6.Contact people in the age group when they have visited 1,3, and 6 times.

H.   Create and Maintain annual Ministry Plan on growth and development of the Student Ministries program

1.Create and cast vision of “then next step”.

2.Constantly evaluate what is vs. what could be.

 

III.     Facilitate Summer Internship Program

A.   Incorporate students that are interested in ministry

B.    Create application and interview process

C.    Write job descriptions for each intern position

D.   Provide incentive for each intern position

E.    Meet with and evaluate each intern regularly

F.    Provide learning goals for each intern

 

IV. Young Adults and College Ministry

A.     Plan and execute weekly meeting and bible study 

B.     Plan and execute social events

C.     Utilize 20 Something Pastoral Care List

D.    Executed assimilation and pastoral care process for 20 somethings.

 

V.    Participate in Team and Staff Events

A.   Easter Egg Hunt

1.Organize specific area of the event as assigned by the event leader

2.Recruit volunteers

3.Oversee operation of event

4.Order supplies as needed

B.    Lights in the Village

1.Organize specific area of the event as assigned by the event leader

2.Recruit volunteers

3.Oversee operation of event

4.Order supplies as needed

 

VI. Goals and Objectives

A.   Create and keep a current aspirational organizational chart for your ministry areas

B.    Maintain an average of five (5) personal weekly pastoral visits

C.    100% NCAG Call Compliance

D.   100% PP Call Compliance

 

VII.       Work Ethic and Other Requirements

A.   Must be professing Christian in word and deed

B.    Comply with FVCN employee manual and Staff Playbook

C.    Additional responsibilities as assigned by leadership

D.   Embrace FVC philosophy, vision and mission as defined by leadership

E.    Participate in a small group associated with FVC and its mission

F.    Required participation in scheduled weekly staff meetings and ad hoc meetings

G.   Maintain office hours starting at 8:30am M-Th

H.   When doing ministry offsite during office hours notify the office

 

VIII.    Environment Conditions:

A.   Works primarily indoors

B.    Occasional exposure to lifting, steps, stairs and uneven surfaces
