Job Title:          Assistant Director                            Status:       Salary Exempt 

Rate:                $36,000 - $38,000                               Benefits:           Medical, dental and vision                                                                            Shift:                 Open/Close

Authority: Direct Supervisor

SUMMARY:  Responsible for maintaining the highest standards possible for the education, care and recreation of children, by ensuring staff provide emergent child-directed, developmentally appropriate activities in a Christian-based classroom while initiating and fostering positive guidance and behavior management practices. Perform various personnel management functions, monitoring staff time and attendance, managing crisis situations, handling confidential information and other related duties.  The Assistant Director the Substitute On-site Director when the Director is unavailable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  An employee in this position is expected to exhibit a genuine liking and understanding of children and a desire to share the general foundations of Christian Faith with them. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. It is an essential function of this position to work in the classroom in direct contact and interactions with children. 

 

Job Task Description

Skills & Abilities: The Assistant Director is responsible for training staff through coaching and modeling in the classroom.

 

Tasks:

·         Teach and/or assist in classrooms as needed to maintain quality and integrity of program

·         Support staff in providing positive and supportive relational interactions with children by modeling expectations and coaching through issues or challenges

·         Provide teachers with resources to extend and or scaffold learning

·         Model Christian principles in all interactions

·         Assist Director in maintaining and implementing break, lunch, teacher prep schedules.

·         Monitor visitors, volunteers, and practicum students; develop, implement and maintain visitor sign-in procedures and building activities including crisis situations such as building evacuation, lockdown, emergency situations, and health and safety procedures. 

·         Work collaboratively with staff to resolve parent concerns and inform the Director if concerns are repeated or not resolved successfully

 

Skills & Abilities: The Assistant Director is responsible for ensuring effective curriculum implementation which is developmentally appropriate and meets the quality standards identified by the Director.

 

Tasks:

·         Provide one on one training and coaching

·         Maintain Check-in Calendar

·         Review lesson plans and coach teachers as needed. Provide feedback to support DAP

·         Assist Director with team break-outs at monthly staff meetings 

·         Assist with trainings during in-service by creating and/or leading trainings applicable to department and/or center  

·         Assist Director in identifying areas for staff growth and development

·         Assist Director with annual curriculum calendar and classroom expectations

·         Assist Director, as requested, in collecting documentation that supports staff development and performance management

 

Skills & Abilities: The Assistant Director is responsible for ensuring that Community Posts and Learning Stories are completed according to posting calendar and meet the quality standards identified by the Director. 

 

Tasks:

·         Ensure Learning Stories are completed in a timely manner and that they meet the standards set forth by BHELC

·         Review Story Park posts and provide feedback

·         Maintain Story Park posting calendar

 

Skills & Abilities: The Assistant Director is responsible for implementing classroom policies and procedures.

 

Tasks:

·         Ensure all policies and procedures set forth by BHELC and the State of Oregon are met with excellence

·         Ensuring record keeping such as injury or incident reports are completed accurately and in a timely manner

·         Assist with implementation of a coaching or performance management plan for staff as requested

 

 

Skills & Abilities: The Assistant Director is responsible for supporting positive staff interactions.

 

Tasks:

·         Model personal behaviors of honesty, fairness, courtesy, consideration and Christian fellowship; establish and maintain positive and professional relationships with students, families, and fellow employees at all times

·         Support a cohesive staff team with a high level of moral

 

Skills & Abilities: The Assistant Director is responsible for participating in events that occur outside of the normal program hours.  

 

Tasks:

·         Participation includes planning, leading and/or implementing activities

·         Attend after hour’s staff meeting and/or trainings, special events, parent/teacher conferences

·         Receive staff “call outs” and arrange coverage

·         Other duties as assigned by the Director

 

 

SPIRITUAL COMMITMENT:

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

·         AA in Early Education, Child Development or Equivalent

·         Documentation of attaining at least step 8.5 in the Oregon Registry

·         3 year of qualified teaching experience in a Certified Child Care Center

·         3 years of experience leading, training and coaching a team

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:

·         Criminal background check required for hire

·         Pediatric CPR and First Aid certifications

·         Food Handlers certification

·         Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect

·         Oregon Registry 

 

TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

 

·         Strong coaching and management skills

·         Strong customer service and public relations skills

·         Able to communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing

·         Able to write routine reports and correspondence

·         Critical thinking and problem solving skills

·         Time management, organizational and prioritization skills.

·         Knowledge of Rules for Certified Child Care Centers

·         Strong working knowledge of Developmentally Appropriate principles and practices

·         Strong working knowledge of the use of Learning Stories as an assessment tool

·         Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspect of the job

·         Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions

·         Ability to manage multiple priorities

·         Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations

·         Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds

·         Ability to remain calm under pressure

·         Ability to interact with others from an emotionally intelligent perspective

·         Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

·         Requires prolonged and/or repetitive sitting, standing, stooping, bending, reaching and kneeling.

·         Must work indoors and outdoors year-round

·         Must work in noisy and crowded environments

·         Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds

·         May be exposed to contagious illness

·         May be exposed to blood borne pathogens
