This staff member will serve the church by developing, coordinating and directing a comprehensive ministry program for children (infant through 5th grade). Works under the direction of the Lead Pastor to facilitate the creation of a workable discipleship vision for ministering to children and their families, to develop new programs as necessary, to provide leadership to volunteers, and participate in the overall discussion and vision implementation of the church.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain an awesome ministry to children and their families.

- Recruit, train and motivate volunteers to embrace and implement children’s ministries programs.

- Review and select curriculum materials and educational tools for all children’s ministries that will be awesome.

- Continually evaluate the effectiveness of all CM activities to eliminate or improve so that it is effective and awesome.

- Assist in training and coordinating any paid staff members or volunteers of the church nursery.

- Evaluate and develop an outreach-focus on reaching and/or involving families in the life of the church.

  • Ensure integration of children’s ministry programming to support the overall discipleship activities of the church.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of programs for children, such as camps, Vacation Bible School, and other children-targeted events to ensure the effectiveness in reaching, connecting, and/or discipling children and families.

Necessary Knowledge and Skills:

Must have a genuine passion for kids and the ministry to them and their families. A good grasp and knowledge of all aspects of children’s ministry with the ability to communicate to the Lead Pastor, and to children’s ministry volunteers and families. A demonstrated ability to train and impassion volunteers to make a child’s experience the best hour of their week. Must have proven leadership experience with strong people skills, and demonstrated success in planning and implementing a program or activity, while bringing out the best in volunteers. Good oral and written communication skills is always helpful.

Basic Qualifications:

Children’s ministry related experience of 3 years is preferred with experience in developing and implementing ministry activity for children. A genuine love for children and their moms and dads. A Bachelor Degree from an accredited College is desirable; an emphasis on Elementary Education (public school or ministry specific) would be nice. Any biblical training in a Wesleyan tradition would be preferred.
