No holds barred... WE ARE LOOKING FOR A PERSON WITH A PASSION FOR CHILDREN AND REACHING THEM THROUGH THE MEANS OF A CHRISTIAN DAYCARE.
This position is one where hours are split between the church's childrens program and the church's weekday ministry (daycare for 18 month through 6th grade... about 45-65 children). The "teaching portion detailed below for weekday is within the schoolage children building relationships and discovering how our church can better minister to these families as a whole. I beleive that God is challenging this congregation to understand that children and family ministry starts at points of need in the community. Childcare is one of those necessities and an avenue where we can become strongly influential in the lives of those that we serve. As they come to know the love of Christ through us and accept that we have already adopted them, we then lead them to a Christian home. Purpose of Position: To provide vision, direction, development and management for all aspects of our ministry to children and families including supervising paid staff and lay leaders/teachers, volunteers, curriculum, programming, facility, budgets and planning.
General Description: Insure that all programming and curriculum needs including that of paid staff, volunteers, building, and supplies are working together to fulfill the ministry purpose of sharing Jesus Christ to all children and families. This shall all be accomplished while being directly accountable to the senior pastor and church board so that the vision and outreach of this specific area of ministry and that of the church and its other varied ministries can be found to be fully in line with one another.
General Responsibilities: Be committed to holiness and developing your personal walk with God in order to model and lead others in their faith.
Serve as associate minister to children and families by fulfilling the requirements of Director of Christian Education.
Participate as a member of the pastoral staff team for the general body of the First Church of the Nazarene and be available to assist in pastoral duties as opportunities arise.
Specific Responsibilities in Children’s Ministry:
Estimated Hours are separated into School-year (SchY) & Summer (S):
Leadership - Provide vision, direction, development and management for all aspects of our ministry to children and families. Encourage and coach paid staff, and facilitate the training of volunteer leaders and teachers. Oversee ongoing strategic development of curriculum, programming, facility, budgets and planning. This will involve time being split between the weekday and weekend children and family ministry interacting on varying levels with both along with meetings with paid staff, volunteers, the senior pastor, and networking.

8 hours weekly (SchY)
8 hours weekly (S)
Service and Outreach – Work with paid and volunteer staff to reach out to children and families in the community (Bible clubs, compassionate ministries, family outreach events, and the development of new initiatives to bridge families and children from all extended ministries of the church.)

Pastoral Care - Offer pastoral care for children and families. This may include hospital visitation, counseling, family interventions, baptisms, general visitation, etc.

Curriculum/ Programming – Research, select, and develop long range curriculum. Curriculum should be based on specific learning goals for each level, and woven into the theme-based, “all inclusive” learning for each grade / age. (Summer will be used to plan an entire year of programs and curriculum for the “school year” and for the following “summer” for both weekday and weekend ministries to children and families.)

Teach/ Disciple/ Care – Develop relationships through caring, discipling and teaching children through varied means in classroom and large group settings as set forth in curriculum previously established. Time spent will be split between weekday (WD) childcare with school-age children and varied weeknight and weekend (WNWE) children’s ministries.

General Notes:
A collaborative effort will be made by the Children and Family Pastor and the senior pastor in relation to Chapel services for childcare during the week and “Kids Worship” on Sunday.
While working with the childcare, state of Michigan licensing regulations will be maintained. Coordination with the Childcare Director for individual and center-wide requirements as they relate to the Children and Family Pastor will be necessary. Hours of service as they relate to teaching in the childcare will be regulated and determined by the Childcare Director along with all other childcare staff. Approximate hours in the Teach/ Disciple/ Care heading above for SchY- WD are based on average hours and estimated hours for next year (no-school days and scheduling emergencies may cause these hours to vary).
The Childcare Director will work in collaboration with the Children and Family Pastor. The Childcare Director’s position falls under the authority of children’s ministries and thus under the authority of the Children and Family Pastor. |
