Elkhart Northside Church of the Nazarene is a church on mission to Love Jesus and Love People.  Northside is a predominantly older church (50yrs. and up) of about 200 people with a strong desire to grow young.  We are committed to helping our people move in our discipleship process, which is to WORSHIP every Sunday together, CONNECT through small groups and classes, and SERVE our community and one another. 


Job Description Overview:

Elkhart Northside Church of the Nazarene is seeking a Youth Pastor to help lead our student ministry and its various events.  This position will work with and report to the Lead Pastor.



Qualifications and Required Skills:

·         Personal commitment to Jesus Christ, the body of Christ, and the mission of God

         A clear calling from God to ministry with a passion for student ministry

         A heart for seeing others embrace Northside’s mission of LOVE JESUS and LOVE PEOPLE

         TEAM PLAYER:  Ability to work effectively with students, youth workers, and parents

         HUMBLE:  Exhibits patience, professionalism, and a Christ-like example

         HUNGRY:  Teachable and eager to learn and grow in ministry

         SMART:  Possess a common sense about people and the ability to communicate and work w/ them

         Entrepreneurial SPIRIT:  To be willing to take risks, experiment, be bold, and act on creative ways to bring students and their families into Northside and into a relationship with Jesus

         Ability to articulate the faith and a biblical worldview


ADDITIONAL Qualifications:

         Introduced to working in a church setting as well as with student ministry (familiarity with various styles of youth ministry and age-appropriate teaching techniques)

         Self-starter willing to jump in and prioritize goals and see them through to completion

         Demonstrates ability to work effectively with various ministry teams in a church, to listen,    influence and lead as needed

         Prepare monthly reports to share with Church Board outlining all activities

         Basic knowledge of computer programs like Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.

         Written and oral communication skills to promote and keep church members and community apprised of what we offer and drive participation

         Ability to facilitate interpersonal relationships, resolve conflicts tactfully, confidently,                        quickly, & positively influence others

         Understanding of how the Church of the Nazarene functions and works


Specific Tasks:

·         Teaching/Leading/Facilitating a small group on Sunday Mornings if needed

·         Assist in leading youth group/small group discussions on Wednesday night

·         Establish contact time with students with the purpose of discipleship

·         Help plan events with our NYI President and NYI Council

·         Promote/attend at least 1 Jr. High/Sr. High Camp, help with transportation as needed

·         Recruit, train students, and help with VBS planning

·         Attend weekly to meetings/planning with NYI President and other staff

         Seek and create opportunities to draw students in on Sundays and Wednesdays

         Establish a good rapport with NYI President and NYI Council

         Allow the NYI Council to assist in planning events

         Attend weekly meetings/planning with Lead Pastor and staff

         Answer phones/door and other general office support as needed

         Liaison to District and the events and opportunities offered (e.g., Camps, Retreats, Quizzes, etc.)


Personal Growth:


·         Be mentored by Lead Pastor and/or someone he/she appoints


         Grow through reading assigned material

o    The First 100 Days:  A Pastor’s Guide, T. Scott Daniels


         Seek to continue education per ministerial requirements (If not licensed or ordained                      work out with Lead Pastor)
