Job Description: Youth Pastor; Part–time, 18–20 hours per week
Grace Church of the Nazarene, Rochester, New York
Grace Church of the Nazarene: Grace Church is located on the west side of Rochester, New York. It is one of seven Nazarene churches in the Rochester area. Located a mile from Roberts Wesleyan College and Northeastern Seminary, Grace Church is in the middle of several small and growing communities (e.g. North Chili, Churchville, Spencerport, Ogden). The neighborhoods closest to the church are comprised of households with an age range of 35–55 and most have families. Grace Church is comprised of a variety of people with a congregation size of 100–120, but with the potential for growth. In addition to the church facility, the property also includes a community youth center (Crossroads Youth Center) that seeks to minister to area teens. It is the expectation of Grace Church that the staff pastor will be involved at some level at the CYC.
Vision and Purpose: It is the vision of Grace Church to reach families through ministry to children and youth. Under the supervision and support of the Lead Pastor, the Youth Pastor will lead in the ministry to students grades 7–12, with the goal of reaching families with the gospel and helping them grow in Christ. While the Lead Pastor will do his best to guard the Youth Pastor from becoming overwhelmed, the Youth Pastor must be careful to balance time between church, family, and personal time.
*The ideal candidate will have a clear and well-articulated call to vocational ministry to add to the pastoral staff of Grace Church.
*Previous work in education or ministry preferred
*Candidates should be ordained or licensed in the Church of the Nazarene, although candidates sympathetic to the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition will be considered; regardless of standing in a Wesleyan denomination, candidates must be willing to become ordained in the Church of the Nazarene
*A growing relationship with the Lord
*Must be a biblical steward of finances—consistent tithing and giving practices are essential and expected
*A willingness to engage fully in the life of Grace Church
*Has an affinity for continuing education
*Possesses the spiritual gift of leadership and teaching
*Effective communicator and passionate faith-sharer
*Has a passion to reach youth and help youth spiritually thrive
*Understands basic teenage development and is familiar with contemporary youth ministry strategies
*Possesses ability to be flexible and to create and manage systems in a rapidly changing environment
*Willingness to work in positive ways with the Lead Pastor and leadership team
*A passion for partnering with parents in the area of youth and children
*A passion to create an environment for spiritual growth in youth and children
*A willingness to share in the ministry of Crossroads Youth Center
Responsibilities: The following list of responsibilities will be limited because of the nature of this part-time position; however, there is the expectation that leadership will be given to these areas whether through the staff pastor or volunteer leadership. The Lead Pastor and youth staff will help the candidate navigate through these responsibilities.
Current youth ministry programming includes monitoring Student Sunday school, leading and facilitating Wednesday night Youth Group, teen monthly activities, District Teen Camps, Fall Retreat, Back to School Bash, District NYI Convention, and Regional Festival of Life.

*Seek to lead students and their families to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ through evangelism, discipleship, worship, prayer, ministry, and fellowship
*Equip students and adult volunteers to become multiplying disciples of Christ
*Lead the enlistment, training, and support of student leaders, parents and volunteers
*Work with the youth and children’s department in the promotion, planning, and implementation of activities and events
*Act as the coordinator of youth activities including Sunday school, special events, District and Regional NYI events
*Provide leadership in this area by expanding the program as the needs warrant
*Provide leadership by locating, training, and equipping leaders and servants to meet program needs
*Ensure a positive and supportive environment that attracts children and parents
*Work to build a strong supportive relationship between self and those working in the area of youth maturity and the Lead Pastor and Leadership Team
*Ensure alignment of the youth ministry and the mission of Grace Church
*Encourage and resources new ministries in youth ministry
*Minimal addition duties as assigned by the Pastor (e.g. pulpit supply, administrative duties, visitation)
Evaluation: The Youth Pastor will offer monthly reports to the Grace Church Board while communicating on a weekly basis with the Lead Pastor. The Lead Pastor will conduct a yearly review in an effort to evaluate both the position’s effectiveness as well as the minister’s effectiveness
Compensation:This is a part-time staff pastor position and it is compensated through a housing allowance provided by Grace Church. Housing includes heat, electricity, cable, trash pick-up, and snow plowing.
Any additional compensation or benefits, including vacation time, will be determined by the Lead Pastor, the Church Board, and based on the candidate’s experience.
