Lead Children's Pastor

We are looking for a person to give leadership to the entire Children's Department from birth to sixth grade.  They will have a staff of paid and volunteer children's workers that they will be leading. The Lead Children’s Pastor is responsible for implementing the mission and vision to the Children’s Ministry of Crossroads by leading, teaching, creating, vision casting and living out the church core values and the mission statement.

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

ACCOUNTABLE TO:  Executive Pastor

DIRECT REPORTS: Early Childhood Pastor, Preteen Director, Early Childhood Coordinator, Administrative Assistants, Nursery Workers, Wednesday Night Ministry Directors, Sunday School Teachers, Children’s Church Directors, Discipleship Director

ROLE OVERVIEW:  The Lead Children’s Pastor is responsible for implementing the mission and vision to the Children’s Ministry of Crossroads, by leading, teaching, creating, vision casting and living out the church core values and the mission statement. 

PURPOSE: Crossroads Children’s Ministry is engaging the church and the family to influence the faith and character of the next generation.

STATUS: Full-time; salaried; exempt

 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.  Staff Pastor

a. Embrace Crossroads Mission Statement, Vision Statements, Core Values, and Role Overview

     b. Foster relationships with church and unchurched kids and parents 

     c. Assist the Pastoral Staff in miscellaneous roles as assigned by the Executive Pastor

     d. Attend at least two Gatherings per month as worshiper

     e. Member of and tithe to Crossroads Nazarene Church

     f. Participate in a Community Life Group

     g. Prepare professionally for growth in ministry through continuing education, reading, and research

 

2.  Lead Children’s Pastor Responsibilities

a. Oversee, resource, and ensure implementation of all children’s ministry programming at Crossroads Nazarene Church

b. Oversee all Crossroads Children’s Ministries budgets

c. Manage change and continually lead discussions with Children’s department about how to more effectively reach kids and their families

d. Give leadership to Communication (The City, Website, Social Media, Promotion, etc.)

e. Make sure all events are promoted, communicated, and executed

f. Implement Ministry Safe Children’s Ministry Policies;  ensure that Children’s Safety and Security plans are in place and followed at all Children’s Ministry activities

 

3.  Leadership / Team Building

a.    Pray for the children, their families, volunteers, and ministry staff

b.   Give leadership to ministry team  (Pastors, Directors, Coordinators and Volunteers)

c.    Provide pastoral presence in the Crossroads community by being an effective and prophetic advocate for children’s and families’ needs within a growing and caring church

d.   Evaluate the effectiveness and progress of Crossroads Children’s Ministry; determine needed changes and develop strategies for making changes.

e.    Keeping the Crossroads mission and vision in mind, prioritize ministries and programming in regards to budget and facility use… (“Why would we do this/continue to do this?”)

f.     Develop and execute plans for discovering, recruiting, and equipping lay ministry leaders; evaluate ministry fit based on spiritual giftedness and passion

g.    Identify and respond to actual or perceived barriers to ministry; assist leaders in identification of options to remove barriers or decrease the impact of the barrier on ministry

 

4.  Discipleship

a. Provide leadership to the entire Children’s Ministry discipleship program for children from birth through sixth grade.  Programs include, but are not limited to, Sundays and Wednesday nights

b. Build teams to create and implement an integrated strategy for discipleship for each age-level.  This would include partnering with other age-group pastors to develop an overall discipleship strategy for children of all ages (birth to college)

c. Develop and oversee worship experiences for children; this includes, but is not limited to, Kids Church, FX: Family Worship, and Intergenerational Worship experiences

 

5.  Outreach and Evangelism

a.    Plan strategic, need-driven events through the year that consider the “whole” child.  (social, mental, physical, and spiritual)

b.   Develop special Mercy opportunities for children and their families

c.    Develop follow-up plans for each Outreach/Evangelistic event

d.   Give oversight to involvement in the community, building relationships, providing help, expertise and assistance to schools, etc.

 

6.  Pastoral Care

a.    Serve as a pastor/shepherd to children, parents, staff, and volunteers

b.   Arrange for follow-up of prospects and absentees

c.    Assist with crisis ministry care to families with children

d.   Assist in the assimilation and involvement of new families with children

e.    Encourage all volunteers to regularly attend one Gathering per week as a worshiper

f.     Assist with parents and/or children who are hurting and struggling in their relationship with God

                                      

7.  Events

a. Cast vision and give leadership to VBS, Retreats, Mission Trip, and Connecting Opportunities (i.e., Back to School Bash, Fall Festival, Jingle Bell Bash, etc.)

b. Cast vison and give leadership to Sixth Grade transition events through the year

c. Promote District events (that support mission/vision)

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

1.      Minimum 4 years of work experience as full-time children’s pastor

2.      District licensed minister

3.   Family Ministry Philosophy

4.      Nazarene/Wesleyan in theological training

5.      Education and/or type of experience required: Bachelor’s degree in related field; working towards ordination or course of study

6.      Computer Skills: Knowledge in Microsoft Word, Publisher, Outlook, Excel, and Power Point, Final Cut Pro, iMovie, iDVD, iTunes, GarageBand, iWork (Pages, Numbers, Keynote).

7.      Growing Christian, leader, teacher, recruiter, trainer, and pastor
