Job Title: Youth Ministry Summer 2017 Intern
Reports to: Youth and Administrative Pastor
Designation: Temporary (May 15, 2017 – August 15, 2017)
Primary Purpose: The Youth Ministry Summer 2017 Intern shall serve and fulfill the responsibilities listed below in the spirit of Trinity Church values and purpose. To shine God’s Light of truth and love into our world by meeting needs and building relationships that glorify God through the power of the Holy Spirit. This position exists for the mutual benefit of Trinity Church of the Nazarene and the intern. Trinity Nazarene Church receives an individual who can offer their own set of skills, knowledge, interests, and passions to support and enhance our Trinity Youth ministry. In turn, the intern receives the opportunity to learn and practice ministry in a safe and nurturing environment as the intern continues to discern a call to ministry.
Possessing a sense of call to ministry and desiring a place to follow and process that calling.
Willing to develop mentoring relationship with a variety of youth.
Ability to help lead discussions and group activities as a part of a team of adult ministry partners.
Must pass a background check and complete Child Protection class.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following represents (but is not limited to) tasks that are expected of this position:
1. Discipleship Responsibilities.
Co-lead a weekly Sunday Group.
Be present and available to lead Wednesday Night Youth Group.
Attend Colorado District NYI Camp (at no cost) as Youth Worker.
Attend Mission: Denver (at no cost) as Youth Worker.
2. Event Responsibilities.
Plan, administrate and execute events in coordination with Youth & Administrative Pastor throughout the summer geared toward engaging youth (including Wednesday Open Gym time).
Be a presence at the majority of scheduled youth events.
Provide radical hospitality at each event, striving to welcome every student.
3. Relational Responsibilities.
Develop and nurture relationships with Trinity youth, parents, and Youth Workers.
4. Personal Growth Responsibilities.
Ask questions, seek leadership, take risks, learn.
Read books/articles or watch podcasts/trainings as assigned by Youth & Administrative Pastor and be prepared for discussion.
5. Other opportunities may include (but not required).
Other Job Duties:
Actively participate in the life of Trinity Church of the Nazarene.
Attend meetings when requested.
Meet with the Youth and Administrative Pastor weekly.
Work effectively with Trinity staff.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
Annually affirm Statement of Faith (Articles of Faith for the Church of the Nazarene)
Commitment to Trinity Church of the Nazarene
Passion for teens and ministry
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Planning and organizational skills
Ability to take charge of tasks and work independently and proactively
Working knowledge of Microsoft computer applications
Ability to work well with others
