 Job Description and Responsibilities

Associate Pastor to Children and Families

The pastor to Children and Families shall serve as an Associate Pastor at Crossroads Church of the Nazarene, and shall fulfill the responsibilities of the minister in the spirit of 1 Timothy 3:2-7.  This pastor is also expected to live in harmony with the general and special rules of the Church of the Nazarene as stated in the Manual:  Church of the Nazarene.  Employment shall be for a term of not more than one year, and shall be renewable upon recommendation of the Senior Pastor at the beginning of each fiscal year (Manual, paragraph 161.2)

 

Position Title:                          Associate Pastor to Children and their Families

Purpose of Position:                Serve as pastoral staff with responsibilities to give pastoral leadership to the children’s ministries and young families

Skills, gifts, passions needed:           

·      Leadership – able to inspire and encourage others to minister to children

·      Administration – Able to organize self, projects, and daily schedule

·      People Skills – able to communicate positively and effectively

·      Recruitment, delegation and management – able to select, approach, recruit, equip, encourage, inspire and support a team of volunteers.

Accountability:                       

·      Answers to:                       Senior Pastor

·      Works with:                      Other Staff

·      Responsible for:                Children’s Ministry Staff

General Responsibilities:      

·      Understand and Meet expectations of Pastoral Ministry Position (leadership, position responsibilities, attendance, example, spiritual walk, etc…)

·      Oversee the Children’s Ministry program and minister to young families

·      As part of Pastoral Staff, additional responsibilities may be given based on need, skills, passions, etc…

Specific Responsibilities:

·      Oversee Children’s Ministries including

o   Recruiting, training, encouraging and empowering children’s workers

·      Nazarene Safe training and administrator

·      Orange Conference / Tour

·      Equipping meetings

·      Huddles on Sundays for leadership

·      Facebook groups

·      Editing of curriculum (delegate and/or manage)

o   Guest Greeting and Follow-up Ministries

·      Postcards to new children

·      Follow-up spiritual letters w/ materials

·      For Heaven’s Sake class (with baptismal emphasis)

o   Pastoral Care for families of children

·      Baby blanket blessings

·      Visitation

o   Provide visionary leadership and strategy for seeing our children connected and growing spiritually

·      Sunday morning programming currently includes First Look (nursery-preK) and UpStreet (K-5th)

·      Outreach events includes VBS, District Camp, Seasonal Events (Trunk or Treat, Spring Fling, etc.)

o   Work with other leaders to develop methods that connect families

·      Parent connect breakfast / meeting

·      Move Up day / Open House

·      Parent Cue

·      Facebook groups

o   Propose and manage children’s ministry budget established by the church board

·      Maintenance of Environments

o   Leadership Teams

·      First Look prep team

·      FL SGL team

·      FL LGL team

·      UpStreet prep team

·      UpSt SGL team

·      UpSt LGL team

·      UpSt tech team

·      Children’s Registration team

·      VBS prep team, crew guides and station leaders

o    Environment Spaces

·      Prep Room

·      Prop Room

·      All rooms currently being used (i.e., space, safety, toys, etc.)

·      Gym (or Large group worship space) set up and tear down

·      Liaison for MOPS ministry

·      Be available to assist the Pastor with duties including administrative duties, visitation, Crisis Care situations, etc.

Expectations:             

·      Approx. 50  hours/week

·      Regular office hours

·      Pastoral attendance expectations

·      Staff and Board reports when requested

·      Annual Performance Reviews including goal setting and evaluation

 

An extremely important aspect of this position is the spiritual character and integrity of the person who fills it.  The Pastor of Children and Families should also demonstrate administrative skills, be a team leader, possess spiritual sensitivity, and exhibit these qualities in everyday life.  This pastor must have a love for children and their parents.  The Pastor to Children and Families acknowledges the responsibility to act in the best interest of Crossroads Church of the Nazarene at all times, and is expected to conduct his/her private and public life in a manner that will not embarrass the church.  Additionally, all pastors, ministers, and directors are to have an experience of salvation, baptism, and sanctification.  They are to share their faith, promote the spiritual good of the church, serve the community, and express the love of God to those they have contact with.
